The Seven Wonders Series

The Underpainting:

Before this series, I was primarily a landscape painter. Portraiture was a technique I had done very few times, and I had never painted myself before; it was a familiar yet foreign process to me.

The Seven Wonders of the world are slightly understood yet they remain a wonder for various reasons. We have theories about how the Great Pyramid of Giza was built, but when you see it with your own eyes you just can’t wrap your head around it.

I can only describe the feeling of seeing the pyramids as that same feeling we get when we try to examine our lives as a whole. I have always been me, and you have always been you. So, shouldn’t we know these people better than we do?

Using myself as the subject, I sought to answer this question for us, for all the me’s and all the you’s.

I didn’t find an answer, just a greater comfort living somewhere between all I am and all I will be.
